Roane County in the Civil War
Welcome

Search this site

This web site contains a pictorial history of the role of Roane County, East Tennessee during the American Civil War. It is one component of a project that was made possible by the generosity of the Jane L. Pettway Foundation.

In addition to this web site, an exhibit featuring narrative, photos, and Civil War artifacts opened at the Kingston Public Library on November 13, 2004. The exhibit will run for three months, during which time many events are planned including movie showings, lectures, discussion groups, and a Civil War ball featuring the band Un-Reconstructed. Additional events are being planned as of this writing. Check the calendar for more details.

Opening of Roane County in the Civil War Exhibit

The exhibit, event schedule, and this web site were created by a team of dedicated volunteers. Many thanks go to Robert Bailey, Deborah and Roger Caldwell, Amber and Steve Jacks, and Carol Righi. Additional thanks are extended to Gerald Augustus, Murphy Caldwell, Don Dickenson, Rob Ripperdan, and Robert Schofield. Thanks also go to the members of our community who have loaned us their Civil War artifacts to display in the exhibit. We are also grateful to the Roane County Heritage Commission for sharing knowledge and for allowing us to reproduce selections from their archives.

You are welcome to explore this web site, visit the library, or contact us for more information.
